In 1732 Susannah Beatty and her ten children traveled by wagon train from Stone Ridge, New York in the Catskills to Maryland to purchase 1,900 acres of land called Dulaney's Lot on Rocky Creek, now known as Israel's Creek. Together with her daughters' and sons' families, some settlers from New York and New Jersey, and a number of pioneers from Pennsylvania began to build a community on the frontier of which is now known as Frederick County.
The Beatty Cramer House has become a Historic Architectural Museum representing Dutch, German and Anglo-American styles of construction.
